Some more colours, as requested by da man. I had a wonderful evening tonight with Lawrence (who has kindly put me up for the first two weeks, ‘dossing’ as its called). We ate at a wonderful little authentic Turkish restaraunt called Gallipoli in Upper street, near Angel. The atmosphere and service was vibrant and warm. The food was delicious! I am moving into a new place in Bethnal Green tomorrow, so many thanks to Lawrence for his kindness and hospitality.

in search of the elusive london coffee (good that is)

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

I suppose that shouldn’t be the title, since it has only taken me 4 days to find a good coffee, some said it couldn’t be done. However, i may have cheated…….Upon wandering into the http://www.cargo-london.com// (83 Rivington Street, Shoreditch) i found a young polish guy who had just moved to London after three years in Sydney (of course). We got talking after i complemented him on the first good coffee i had found in London, and the cheapest at only £1. He proceeded to tell me the difference between English and Australian coffee’s, lets use the latte as our example here: With an English latte the milk is heated and added first, with about an inch of very light froth on the top, the shot of coffee is then added and forms a strong layer at the bottom with the froth mostly untouched. In comparison to an Australian latter where the coffee goes in first, milk added second, blending the two fairly evenly. After this very enlightening discussion, i was treated to a “Sydney Style” latte on the house……..Living in London isn’t going to be that bad after all!
